Dschinghis Khan

What could possibly be more Jewish than Mordechai ben David's classic song "Yidden"? The thing is, the song met with some opposition from the frummer circles since you couldn't dance to it in one (a circle, that is). Clearly, there was something not Jewish about it. Well, what do you know, they were right!

It turns out that MBD released the song in his 1991 album "Jerusalem is Not For Sale. That would be only 12 years after a German group named "Dschinghis Khan" finshed 8th in Eurovision, which was held in Jerusalem.

You can download their music video here (2.6 MB). Brace yourself. That's all I can say. Oh yeah, and please tell me if you're downloading it by emailing me.

Interested in the lyrics? You can get them here in the original German, or here in (partial) translation.

UPDATE: You can actually own this music, courtesy of Amazon.  Who'd have thought?  How much else from the Jewish music canon can you find here?  The world holds its breath in anticipation.

Enjoy. I know I did.
