Devotional Guide For the week of March 20, 2005 THE PASSION OF CHRIST To Read: 1 Corinthians 13,14 To Know: "The word of the Lord came to me again: ‘What do you mean by repeating this proverb concerning the land of Israel, ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge’? As I live, says the Lord God, this proverb shall no more be used by you in Israel. Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sins shall die."  (Ezekiel 18:1-4) Mel Gibson’s "The Passion of the Christ" is a good film for Good Friday. The filmmaker captured on film the significance of the cross. Justice is the principle operating, established for all intelligent beings. A just God judges men and angels. Mark Twain’s cynical observation was that sometimes it is necessary to rise above principle. Before Charles Colson became a new man in Jesus Christ, he was an unprincipled counsel to the president. After the Watergate break-in the president’s men rallied to conceal White House involvement in the crime. So outside the rules was Colson that he earned the nickname "hatchet man." We are an increasingly unprincipled society. Our hope is in another man who himself rose above principle. The principle on which the universe rests was stated by Ezekiel, ".the soul that sins shall die." (18:4) In order to save sinners, Christ needed to rise above principle into the regions where love takes action. This the Lord did without violating the demands of justice. Rather, he satisfied justice and fulfilled the demands of love when he vanquished evil by dying the death that sinners rightly deserve. That is the central message of "The Passion of the Christ." To Read: 1 Corinthians 7-9 To Know: "And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, ‘Father, if thou art willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.’" (Luke 22:41,42) Mel Gibson’s "The Passion of the Christ" opens in Gethsemane. The scene is a dark and dangerous one. Evil needs the darkness to work its will. Jesus Christ is in a dangerous fight against the temptation to save his own life. The greatest war ever waged on earth is in sight of the last battle. Jesus Christ is fighting a war of wills.  In a matter of hours he will hang helpless on a cross. Survival is our most basic human instinct and Jesus is truly human, but not merely human. His survival instinct resided in the same heart as the desire to do the Father’s will. In Gethsemane the man Jesus would escape if God permits, but if it is his Father’s will that he die, then die he will. Jesus died. Never was the world so profoundly blessed by a single act. We are called to follow Jesus by doing his will, not our own. To Do: Do you have a strategy to make the will of the Lord your own? We exist to bless the world. Our faith is the power to do what Jesus Christ did. John wrote, "Truly, truly, I (Jesus) say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father." (14:12)  We all own money. The money that we give is often money we do not really need. When the Lord presents us with someone who needs the money we also need, then are we in our own Gethsemane. That is a dark and dangerous moment. Will we escape or will we do God’s revealed will? Jesus said, "If anyone would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well." (Matt. 5:40) God gives those that believe in the name of Jesus Christ a new nature. He gives believers his own Spirit. The challenge to our faith is to nurture our new nature until it shapes our character. To Ask: Father, not my will but yours be done. 03235$-03235

Before boarding, Reverend Henry Durant needed to have supplies enough for a month at sea. Christians are on a journey into the future. Jesus is eternal life, and by faith in his name we mere human beings are promised to live forevermore. For this momentous journey we need an inexhaustible store of provisions. This is precisely what we have received because we have Jesus Christ "in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." Devotional Guide For the week of February 6, 2005 GOD’S WARNING SIGNAL To Read: Luke 1-3 To Know: "Claiming to be wise, they became fools…." (Rm. 1:22) The perishing share something in common. They agree that the preaching of the cross is foolishness. Scripture has the opposite point of view. Brilliant is a favorite expression of the English for something deemed astounding. According to the Spirit of God who inspired the Bible, the cross is brilliant. On the cross death died. In that holocaust the Evil One ended his reign of terror. On the stake where they impaled Jesus, the kingdoms of this world became the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ who shall reign forever and ever. The cross was the instrument by which the forgiven were "delivered.from the dominion of darkness and transferred . to the kingdom of his beloved Son." (Col. 1:13) It was at the cross that the legal charges against sinners were dropped.  The bond that stood against the chosen people "with its legal demands; this he set aside, nailing it to the cross." (Col. 2:14) The cross of Christ is the first principle of the world to come. The wise in this world will not bring themselves low enough to see a God who was willing to stoop down far enough to pay the penalty owed him by a rebel race. Pride makes the Devil devilish. He was too proud to see that God the Son, whose throne he labored to make his own, would become sin in order that sinners might become the righteousness of God in him. (See 2 Cor. 5:21) When Christ died sin was forgiven and sinners were released from the Devil’s thralldom. Paul wrote regarding the wisdom of God in suffering for his own that, "None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory." You mistakenly give the impression that we have 450 years left before the second coming of the Messiah.  He said that not one generation would pass after the end of the gentiles.  This could be understood at 1948 when Israel came back into existence in a minute without bloodshed (a prophecy), or in 1967, which occurred with the absolute miracle of the Six-Day War when Israel got the Star in the Crown, Jerusalem. In different parts of the Word, a generation has been referred to as: 40 years, 50 years, 70, 80 and 100 years.  So at the earliest it would have been 1948 + 40 = 1988 (Hal Lindsey’s guesstimate).  Even if we use the later date of 1967, and even if we say a generation is 100 years, the latest the Messiah would come back is 2067. Personally, my current understanding is Feast of Trumpets about 2017.  1917 was important because of the legal right to create Israel (Balfour Declaration) and 1967 was important because of winning Jerusalem, so 2017 makes sense from the Jubilee Theory. Are you thinking this exists as flash?  Or have you just done your research on the internet, searching by "Tattoos of yggdrasil . . ." Jesus Christ on a pogo stick.  You are looking for something very specific, probably something you have seen in some form.  Take that image to a tattoo artist and say "I would like something like this." You’re not looking for a "tattoo" of those images because that would be stealing and that would be lame. Right? Oh no, that would be lame. I want to make something that is unique but still adheres to the old norse styles. I have a vague idea in my head of what it would look like, but unfortunately I’m not very good at drawing. I’m not sure what to do. I’ll look up those search topics though, thanks

Remember that you don’t need to find the exact thing you need; you merely need to find base material for the /artist/ to produce the piece of artwork that you commission. When you find an image that has the body posture, proportions &etc that you like, save it.  When you find an image of whoever that you like the looks of, save it.  When you find an image in the artistic style of what you’d like, save that.  And so on, until you have a few examples of what you like with respect to subject material and style. Take these to a real artist, and explain.  Artist should be able to produce something acceptable, though it may take some tweaking. Expect to pay for this time and skill, though if the artist gives you a break here remember that when it comes to tipping. E.g.: When I had my little tattoo done, I gave the artist three or four pictures of the subject matter so that he’d know what things looked like in a natural setting, told him where I would like the piece placed, and said that I would be happy with either something photorealistic or art nouveau-ish.   — nj"presto"m "Ah! My oldest is too old, the middle one just broke his leg in a way that made him draft proof, my youngest just married a Bulgarian. The answer is No, no way. But the next draft isn’t gonna be young kids, it’s gonna be medical personnel which is going to include middle aged doctors, nurses, etc. There is never going to be a democracy in the Middle East.
