Question:

Barba, Please keep us posted how this little girl is doing. Her parents must be frantic–how could they possibly know that what they were treating her with for her JRA would be life-threatening? Evelyn

Response:

I’m sending all the positive thoughts and prayers I can muster your way, and hoping for the best.  And don’t forget, kids can do some amazing things sometimes!!! Bonnie

This is an update on Brittany. She has been moved from ICU to a regular room. Seems fairly responsive. The neuro seems pleased with his findings. And MRI scheduled for tomorrow. The liver levels were elevated 3 times above normal, and are now dropping. This is good. Kidney function is normal. She is still sleeping a lot. And complains of a bad headache. Her temp is elevated 103, so are monitoring for pneumonia. And started an antibiotic. The doctors seem to think that she is on the mend, altho the critical 48 hours havn’t passed yet. They don’t understand how Brittany could have been sooooo critical, and is now soooo much better. But I suppose we know…..there is great power in prayer. Than you for your prayers, and her parents thank you too. Thank goodness the Rheumie discontinued the medication when he learned of the flu-like symptoms. The damage would surely have been irreversable.

I am requesting prayer for a friend’s 3 year old. She was diagnosed with Reyes today. She was taking an anti-inflammatory that contained an asprin-like compound for her RA. She  had flu symptoms which progressivly worsened. As you can remember Reyes is  complicated by asprin.  Children’s hospital here hasn’t seen a case of Reyes since ‘85.  She is unresponsive, and there is possible liver damage.
