Some paragraphs later in the "reference" quote the disciples as saying something similar to "Man is not saved by good deeds and good intentions, only by accepting Jesus can man be saved", but the disciples were a bunch of retards that Jesus is seen to have had to educate every time he encounters any of them.  So, according to the church, the disciples were right and Jesus was wrong, so Jesus was a retard.  Therefore you must accept Jesus and be saved.
