I had a 91 accord with the same exact problem.  It’s a broken motor mount.  Evidently this is a common problem on Honda’s according to the mechanic. Craig C.

I had a similar experience with a ‘93 acura integra.  two mounts were partially broken (one of two rubber connections broken);  one mount was completely broken (both rubber connections broken);  fourth mount was ok.

thanks for all the suggestions guys.  i’ll probably do the ethanol through the engine for a week or 2, then if it persists i’ll have the engine mounts looked at. is there a way i can examine the mounts myself?  just in my garage with a mag light? :) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->engine shakes pretty bad when in reverse and say, stopped at a stoplight.  it’s >okay when i have it in park, then it’s usually around 1000 or so rpm, but >stopped at the light it’s around 850-900 and i’m not sure if this is the cause >of the shaking or not..  guess i didnt’ pay attention now that i think of it on >how high the rpm’s were sitting in reverse.. > I had a 91 accord with the same exact problem.  It’s a broken motor > mount.  Evidently this is a common problem on Honda’s according to the > mechanic. > Craig C.

Glass mounting bolts, inside the door panel. Common. >and i have to get the rubber molding replaced around the > driver’s side window, because that’s coming off and it’s bent out of shape and > just looks ugly..

Next time you’re in a parking lot, look around for the same generation Accord (90-93). Is the rubber moulding pulled up, and kinked right at the bend in the glass? Yeah, it’s THAT common. Mine too. Not sure how much of a DIY fix that is.

just look at the donut in the front of the engine. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > thanks for all the suggestions guys.  i’ll probably do the ethanol through the > engine for a week or 2, then if it persists i’ll have the engine mounts looked at. > is there a way i can examine the mounts myself?  just in my garage with a mag > light? :) >>engine shakes pretty bad when in reverse and say, stopped at a stoplight.  it’s >>okay when i have it in park, then it’s usually around 1000 or so rpm, but >>stopped at the light it’s around 850-900 and i’m not sure if this is the cause >>of the shaking or not..  guess i didnt’ pay attention now that i think of it on >>how high the rpm’s were sitting in reverse.. > I had a 91 accord with the same exact problem.  It’s a broken motor > mount.  Evidently this is a common problem on Honda’s according to the > mechanic. > Craig C.

Pretty much all Accords ‘90 and up have a driver side window problem, especially those with the automatic roll down….I had a 92, a 94, and 96 ex, all the same problem…and a friend of mine with a 98, same thing…..the best way to fix this is to replace your switch, track and glass, and possibly the seal…I did it on every one of mine, no problems after that….the driver side, that’s wierd but I think your on the right track with the short….I also think that your engine shake is most likely motor mounts….go and get some of the acrylic type, if that doesn’t fix it and it shakes during a shift in gear, then it might be your transmission….. i have a 92 accord ex, w/ an auto trans.  and am having a few concerns about it.   first the car has ~129K miles on it, still runs well , just there are a few things bugging me.. one is the power windows, which aren’t a big deal, and not going to worry about that for now..  but one thing that does bug me is the engine shakes pretty bad when in reverse and say, stopped at a stoplight.  it’s okay when i have it in park, then it’s usually around 1000 or so rpm, but stopped at the light it’s around 850-900 and i’m not sure if this is the cause of the shaking or not..  guess i didnt’ pay attention now that i think of it on how high the rpm’s were sitting in reverse.. i’m going to take the car in and have it checked out maybe tomorrow.  i’m not sure the last time the timing belt was replaced as i just bought the car maybe a month and a half ago, so i thought that would be a good idea..  already had a full tune up on the car, and now just want to get the car running as good as possible.. just wondering maybe if somoene has some ideas as to what could be causing the rough idling..   or maybe some other general things i can do that aren’t *too* spendy to get my car running as good as possible.

Chris: I also bought an old Accord (90, EX) recently and the idling and other associated engine problems are probably because of the mounting.  You can get a replacement from a junkyard and the total – including labor should be less than $80. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > i have a 92 accord ex, w/ an auto trans.  and am having a few concerns about it. >   first the car has ~129K miles on it, still runs well , just there are a few > things bugging me.. one is the power windows, which aren’t a big deal, and not > going to worry about that for now..  but one thing that does bug me is the > engine shakes pretty bad when in reverse and say, stopped at a stoplight.  it’s > okay when i have it in park, then it’s usually around 1000 or so rpm, but > stopped at the light it’s around 850-900 and i’m not sure if this is the cause > of the shaking or not..  guess i didnt’ pay attention now that i think of it on > how high the rpm’s were sitting in reverse.. > i’m going to take the car in and have it checked out maybe tomorrow.  i’m not > sure the last time the timing belt was replaced as i just bought the car maybe a > month and a half ago, so i thought that would be a good idea..  already had a > full tune up on the car, and now just want to get the car running as good as > possible.. > just wondering maybe if somoene has some ideas as to what could be causing the > rough idling..   or maybe some other general things i can do that aren’t *too* > spendy to get my car running as good as possible.

well, the right front window didn’t work when i bought the car… replaced the fuse for the window, and then it worked.. now it doesn’t again, so i’m assuming there’s a short somewhere…  checked/replaced the fuse for it again and still nothing..  and the driver side front window seems to be off track… it goes down ok, but on the way back up the window slides forward and leaves a gap at the back of the door.. and i have to get the rubber molding replaced around the driver’s side window, because that’s coming off and it’s bent out of shape and just looks ugly..  i can always take pictures of stuff, too, if that ever helps – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > You weren’t specific about the power window problem but mine were running > slow and I sprayed the track with silicone and that solved the problem. Response:

You weren’t specific about the power window problem but mine were running slow and I sprayed the track with silicone and that solved the problem. As far as the engine vibration, it could be a motor mount.
