Question:

Hi Paul, concerning "Re: 16×7.5 wheels what tire size???": > do you recommend any tire brand,

I think I cannot, because I have only driven 2 different brands on the 7.5×16. I started with Pirelli P5000, though they were damn expensive I wasn’t 100% pleased. Driving on dry roads the handling was almost perfect, but driving while rainy weather was too slippy to buy them again. I have now some cheapos mounted (don’t remember the brand), they’re quite good on rainy raods but you can’t compare them to the Pirelli when it’s dry. But as long as they did only cost a third of the Pirellis it’s ok. > do the 7.5 wheels stick out of the fenders to far??

Mounting them without displacement discs on a car with original fenders (not pulled) looks just fine. The wheels do not stick out of the fenders and even the German authorities allowed this without a doubt :-) Christian

I have a 85 325e that I am putting 16×7.5 TSW Imola wheels on. What size and tire should I mount on them?? I don’t have any suspension mods on it now but may in the future. I am looking for a inexpensive tire that can sometimes be used in the winter. Any ideas?? Paul

I own a ‘88 325i with a complete m-tech package including m-tech shock absorbers and springs. Everything is original, no pulled fenders. It’s currently equiped with Azev type A 7.5×16 wheels. For me the best compromise regarding costs, a good look and handling are 205/50/VR16 tyres on all 4 wheels. 225/45/VR16 on the rear wheels are possible too if you prefer. Of course this is only for the summer. It might be a big risk to drive such wide tyres in the winter. And your shiny aluminium wheels could get attacked by the thawing salt. Therefore I have bought standard 6.5×14 steel wheels with 175/70/R14T tyres which are used in the winter. Greetings, Christian

Well, I haven driven 4 different tyre sizes on my ‘88 325i: – 195/65/14 on standard BMW 14" aluminium wheels   (mounted when I bought the car) – 205/55/15 on BMW-BBS 15" aluminium wheels   (those where stolen right from the car :-( ) – 205/50/16 on Azev type A 16" aluminium wheels   (mounted now) – 175/70/14 on standard BMW 14" steel wheels   (mounted in the winter) Of course it does decrease the car performance, especially noted when mounting the small winter tyres and comparing to the 205/50/16. But IMHO it’s rather slight and does not make me mount smaller ones or even throw in a bigger engine :-) Christian
